Genesis 18 tells us that Abraham is cooling down in the heat of the day under the Oaks of Mamre. It is there, that the Lord visits him. What happens next is something lost on many of us when we are reading our Bible. Abraham’s reaction is like that of a child whose friend stops by. He RUNS to greet his guests. Have you ever tried to run on hot sand in the heat of the day? Also have you tried this at 99 years old?
Not many of us will live long enough to see that age, but if we did, I’m not sure we’d be running in sandals in the hot sun! Oh that we would be that eager to greet the Lord. Truthfully, if this passage was read that I was reclining under the shade & the Lord visited, It would say that I ran & put away any Legos that my children had left out & made sure the sink was empty of dirty dishes. That is what we do, right? We wait until we are no longer “dirty”, or unclean, or unworthy, before going to church.
The great hymn “Come, Ye sinners!” reminds us that, “If you tarry until you’re better, you will never come at all!” I know we all use tarry in our everyday language, but JUST in case you don’t, that lyric reminds us that if we wait until we have it all together, we’ll never arrive. We’ll never get up & go.
God eagerly desires a relationship with you! What does your walk with Him look like? Do you go running towards Him & greet Him like a lifetime friend? Or do you hesitate & tell Him, “tomorrow”?
Let me caution/warn you that you may not have tomorrow…. I am sure that hell is full of people who planned to get right with God “tomorrow”, don’t put it off. Pursue Him, honor Him, glorify Him, in ALL you do! Be blessed!
